Today, 24 may
good times in the garden today. got out the mower and cyclone rake and sucked up a bunch of clippings to use as mulch around the plants. I still haven't found much on mulch in period, but i can't keep up with the weeding otherwise. And i've hauled water from the river in buckets, but now that there's more plants i can't keep up with that either. So the mulch and the hose take the place of a gardening staff.
and it was hot so finished it off with a dunk in the river.

First bed
So this is a bit late in the year to be starting, but the weather has been strange. It's quite cold this morning which helped me feel ok about brig so late. So the first bed is basil and onions. The north quadrant will be corn tomato and beans, all new world plants. Don't have plans for the rest of it yet...
Now it's off to the river to fetch a pail of water.

Preparations and layout
So I botched the layout a little. My intention was for it to be 15'wide and 23' long, but it's not quite square so one end is 14'. I'm not going to worry about it too much.
The stakes I'm using for layout are sticks harvested from the coppice, which is a great technique used frequently in the Middle Ages, and a few short lengths of rattan, suitable for the current Middle Ages
