Shaving with an axe

It's true! Though not a face. The sharpness of the tool is paramount. It is really leaving a nice surface on the bowl. I see now the relationship between the broadhatchet and the plane, as hinted in the 15th c poem "the debate of the carpenter's tools"

Bowl

So the bowl is starting to split severely. Not sure how to avoid this, the log is still pretty green

I love the texture left by the gouge though

Sunrise

Venus reigns over
A rainbow horizon
Behind black bars of trees
That prison, only illusory
The world's turnings
Change that perspective
Separate the trees
Revealing their depth
With the growing light

Sauerbraten

In a pot with oil or grease from bacon cast thereto minced or grated onion and cook until sweet with bay leaf. Add pickling spice and salt, thence a liquid half water and half vinegar or good verjuice. Cook this until the flavored are well blended then let cool.

Put a roast of beef into a crock, or large bowl and submerge in the brine. Add red wine to keep it covered. Keep in the pickle for four or five days, turning the meat twice a day.

When it is done, wipe it dry and roast it. Make gravy from the drippings

Potery

Winters white cloak
Rent torn sliced open wide
Thrown aside
Expose the black top
That wounded hem
Where the white fields end
Crusty and soiled with exhausted specks
And detritus of Vulcan

Werds

Like a flock of birds
Rows of rippled clouds
Like a spearhead they fly
Black across the brightening sky

Can't wait for spring?

So don't! Here are some pinks and a citrus tree, all started from seed. In my office at work.

Don't let lack of space deter you, either

Bowl-ing

This is a very interesting item. My best hatchet is a bit heavy so I don't use it for very long at a time but I finally got a nice rippled surface from it on the outside of the protobowl. Well I guess it still isn't great but now I can see the potential of the tool. The inside is now gouged out, the cavity will need to be expanded a bit. Here also is a rough chopped edge (won't even call it 'hewn')

The snow Thursday evening wrecked another panel on the greenhouse roof

It is cold
